This platform is actually the old Up Loop platform, (to give it its correct title) not the Up Bay. The loop could be accessed from the Uckfield direction. The up home signal had a pair of semaphore arms for this purpose. Only in the early 1980s did the country end facing points get taken OOU, and the up loop home semaphore arm removed. The loop platforms once allowed cross-platform interchange for trains running between Brighton and Oxted via Lewes and those running between Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells West via Heathfield |

| I dont know why they replaced the old sliding door that door just looks stupid and the way they have refurbished the 315s has completly ruined any charachter they once had. |

| I really liked the photos of 45231. I'll put a link to your site from srpssteam.com Apart from the Jocobite there is hardly any stem running on the main line in Scotland. You are so lucky to be able to experience it down south.

| These pictures really take me back.Lovely comfortable
old units these were,with the wall-lights giving a nice
homely glow to the interiors prior to the facelift.When
I saw 1701 towards the end,I couldn't believe how
run-down they'd let it get.Shame about 1705 too,the
class leader.Initial ideas of preserving that by the
Central Division,or whatever they call it now,came to
nothing,as with the CEP 1698 on South Eastern lines.

| Well the test trains run for the next 2 1/2 months, the reason is due to the line being blocked between Tunbridge Wells and Wadhurst from Saturday 4th August until Monday 27th August, while Network Rail undertakes track renewals in Grove tunnel. I herd it was for empty trains only, but was told by someone else that there would be some passenger train too, i guess the passenger trains would not run via Brighton if this happens, but would go direct via Lewes.

| The 317 was running as 5M77 1928 Hornsey to Cricklewood as FCC Thameslink are using a couple of 317's on Moorgate services, this move will happen again in both directions on transit moves to change the units over or for maintenance purposes.

| I guess it goes this route to keep the cost down on hiring in a loco & crew, as the move was hauled by an 8 car 319, (see previous photo in this collection). |

| That was platform 17 at Clapham Junction, there are the odd train that runs via clapham Junction, the return trains go through platform 16 but don't stop at Clapham Junction in either direction. |

| Hi Dave at the moment it looks like all trip will have a Class 73 as a back up in case of failure, i guess once they have a couple of units they may go on there own. next trip is for this Thursday 20/09/07 5Z42 1135 Stewerts Lane to Lovers Walk via Brighton. |

| GBRF crewed the train, the motors were going on the 442 when it departed, the 73s leaded the train into Ashford, but was driven from the 442 to Chart Leacon.
